International Women's Day 2019

Year 9 Get Active in Celebration of International Women’s Day

Friday 8th March 2019 marked International Women’s Day, a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity.  In recognition of this a group of Year 9 students took part in a GLL Better Gyms Fitness Taster Session with the aim being to try and encourage enhanced participation in physical activity amongst teenage girls, both inside and outside of the school environment.  The girls engaged in an hour long cardio and circuit training session as well as discussions around nutrition and the facilities and opportunities available to them to get involved in physical activity within Greenwich Borough.

The girls engaged enthusiastically with all of the activities, encouraging and pushing each other to keep going and perform to their best.  Both instructors commented during and following the session on how much of a pleasure it was to undertake the session with our students as well as complementing them on their exceptional behaviour and outstanding attitude throughout.

A huge well done to all girls who took part and it is hoped that with their enhanced knowledge and understanding of the importance of sustained involvement in physical activity the girls will continue to be active participants.
