Number On Roll
The Academy has been created following the closure of the Saint Paul's Catholic School,
and for the first two years of its life will be based on the site of the former school. The Catholic
School accommodated approximately 560 students whereas the new Academy, when it is at capacity, will admit
240 students per year with 1200 students on roll. The Catholic School students transferred automatically
to the new Academy and the future intake will comprise predominantly of catholic students complemented by
a cohort of 33% community youngsters. This intake satisfies two different needs, the first being a
shortage of school places for catholic youngsters and the second a projected shortage of places for young
people from the Abbey Wood area. There will be, therefore, 160 catholic and 80 community admissions each
year when the Academy operates at a maximum capacity. Initially, the intake will be 180 until the
Academy moves to its new site in Abbey Wood.
A great deal of planning and preparation have taken place
in order to provide this superb new educational facility for young people in Abbey Wood. We have taken
the best of Saint Paul's Catholic School and added the best modern technology and an enhanced curriculum
which will allow wide opportunities for the students in our care. In two years time we will move to a
brand new building in Abbey Wood, but in the interim, the temporary accommodation on our current site,
will have a very beneficial impact on learning.
Saint Paul's Academy is also very fortunate in having an
outstanding staff, many of whom transferred from Saint Paul's School. The very able and experienced teaching
staff are supported by a large number of teaching assistants, who also bring a wealth of knowledge and
diversity into our classroom.
It is our aim to offer the best possible education to young
people, not only through the taught curriculum and extra curricular activities but through the positive
and supportive atmosphere of the institution.
