Mission Statement
Established by the trustees of the Archdiocese of Southwark, this
Catholic Academy seeks to create a community, which is characterised by gospel values and the teaching
of the Catholic Church.
The Academy seeks to serve both the Catholic and the local community, welcoming all those who embrace its values and share its quest for excellence.
- To provide opportunities for young people to develop the knowledge,
skills and wisdom necessary for effective learning.
- To enable learners to develop their intellectual, social, moral,
spiritual and physical potential to the full in order to become proactive members of both the local
and wider community.
- To increase aspirations by exploiting educational innovations and
opportunities in the best interests of our students and staff.

David Mallen CBE
David Mallen CBE, is the Chairman of the Saint Paul's Academy Trust. David was raised on a council estate in Rotherham in Yorkshire, he became an apprentice in the local steel works before going to university.
He has enjoyed a successful and distinguished career in education which
has included senior positions in Coventry LEA and the Inner London
Education Authority where he was the Chief Education Officer before
being appointed the Director of Education in East Sussex. When he
retired from that position he was recruited by the Department for
Education and Skills as an advisor.
An Economics and Politics Graduate from Manchester University,
David was, towards the end of his career, awarded a CBE for services
to education. A committed and passionate believer in community
education and a devout Catholic, he is the ideal person to oversee Saint
Paul's Academy with its obligations to a cohort of community-based
and Catholic students.
"My ambition is to see this Academy raise the expectations and aspirations of all students in the Abbey Wood area and to contribute to the enrichment and growth of the community it serves".

Patrick Winston
Patrick Winston is the Principal of Saint Paul's Academy.
A teacher for 31 years, he has held a range of senior
posts in schools during his career and possesses a
Masters in Business Administration degree in addition
to his original BEd.
As leader of Saint Paul's Catholic
School, he has been the driving force in creating the
Academy and sees it as a splendid opportunity for
the development of the school and the community.
Under his leadership, Saint Paul's Catholic School was granted Beacon
School Status by the DfES in January 2000 and gained School
Achievement Awards in 2001 and 2003.
Patrick is passionate about Sport. He sees personal development,
working with others, enjoying success and coping with defeat as a
product of a sporting ethos. Saint Paul's School had an outstanding sports
record and was successful at both local and county level; this success
has been carried forward into the Academy.
