Machindo Mwambazi, a Year 10 Sports Leader at St Paul’s Academy was chosen to represent London at the International Inspiration Olympic Gallery launch recently at the Museum of London where he met Lord Sebastian Coe, Denise Lewis and Colin Jackson. Machindo’s photo was chosen to represent London schools learning though sport and will be displayed at the Olympic stadium during the London Games 2012.
Through the BTEC sport programme, Machindo has been part of the International Inspirations partnership in Mozambique, a project that centres its mission on the values of the Olympic and Paralympic Games. Machindo and his Olympic Ambassadors meet regularly to discuss new ideas and initiatives, leadership opportunities and whole school cross-curricular projects.
I was fortunate to be picked as an Olympic Ambassador who, as part of a group helps shape our sporting academy with ideas, initiatives and community projects. As a student of sport, I am competing my studies through learning about sports leadership and how through the Olympic and Paralympic Values we can become better citizens for the future, remarks Machindo.
Talking about his eventful evening with Lord Coe, Machindo says,
It was an amazing evening of sporting celebration. Meeting famous Olympians, like Denise Lewis and Colin Jackson but talking with Sebastian Coe was a dream come true – he is such an inspiring person.
International Inspirations has given me a platform to do the things I’ve always wanted to do – organise sporting events, present awards, meet athletes and aspire to be a role model for not only my peers but for my family as well. Sport and International Inspirations has given me a positive direction.
