Mathematics & Commerce

The Mathematics & Commerce Learning Zone will develop each student's understanding of mathematical concepts through a variety of different teaching methods. Both pure and applied mathematics will be taught and the practical and day to day relevance of mathematics will be emphasised through lessons and extra-curricular activities. When appropriate, students will be grouped according to ability and progress will be closely monitored.

Commerce will be an area of great expansion for the Academy and we will aim to encourage students to take part in enterprise activities which, wherever possible, will be linked to the local community. The second speciality of the Academy is Enterprise.

We are aiming to give all students an understanding of fair trade and ethically run business; we want to equip them for life in the real world and to make them informed and motivated twenty-first century citizens but we also want to ensure that every student has an awareness of global issues and international relations. To start with, ventures will be small but all students will be encouraged to take part in order to achieve a greater sense of community.
