Facilities

The physical changes, whilst evident at the moment, will be more dramatic on the Abbey Wood site where facilities will all be state of the art and include:

• Outstanding recreational and dance facilities including sports hall, a dance studio, a professional fitness centre, extensive sports fields and an all weather pitch;
• Technology to help and support learning;
• Open study areas in every learning zone allowing easy student access to computing resources at all times;
• Advanced science laboratories;
• Sound and TV recording studios;
• Modern library and learning resources centre;
• Food technology suite;
• Craft and electronics rooms;
• Music studios;
• Restaurant serving hot breakfasts and lunches;
• Electronic attendance recording systems which enables parents to check their child's attendance;
• Safe and secure protection preventing unauthorised access into the grounds and buildings.

The modern facilities, with the greater available space and excellent resources, will change how students learn. The facilities will enable youngsters to:

• Pursue a wider range of vocational subjects;
• Become more independent learners;
• Complete their 'homework' at the Academy;
• Use the 'open learning areas' before, during and after lessons;
• Access ICT educational programmes in all subjects;
• Review details of lessons they have studied. This is especially helpful to students who miss lessons due to illness or absence enabling them to 'catch up'.

No barrier exists to learning. Students who neglect or show disrespect for these facilities will have a sanction imposed by the school. Independence in such a resource rich environment is a privilege not an entitlement and is available to those who display sensible and responsible behaviour.
